Senior Vice President of Production, HBO Films & Miniseries
Jay Roewe is senior vice president, Production, HBO Films and Mini-Series, for Home Box Office, responsible for overseeing the physical production of all films, theatrical and for the network, as well as miniseries under the HBO Films banner. He was named to this position in March 2004. Roewe joined HBO in 1994 as vice president, Production, HBO Pictures. He has overseen such acclaimed productions as the multiple Emmy® nominated “John Adams” and Golden Globe-winner “Angels in America,” the 2003 Cannes Film Festival Palme d’Or winner “Elephant,” the Sundance Film Festival award winners “American Splendor,” “Real Women Have Curves” and “Maria Full of Grace”, and most recently, the acclaimed “Generation Kill”.
His area also oversaw the Emmy® winning and nominated productions of “Recount”, “Warm Springs, “Something the Lord Made,” “The Gathering Storm,” “Truman,” “Don King: Only in America” and “Indictment: The McMartin Trial.” HBO Films have won the Made-for Television Movie Emmy® Award every year but two in the last fourteen years.
From 1987 to 1994, Roewe worked on a number of feature films and television programs in a producing capacity. His film credits include “Madonna: Truth or Dare” and “Wes Craven’s New Nightmare.” His television credits include the “Beverly Hills 90210” pilot and the HBO Original Programming specials “Billy Crystal-Midnight Train to Moscow” in 1989 and “Billy Joel-Live in Leningrad” in 1987.
Prior to working in films, Roewe produced commercials and music videos from 1985 to 1989 at Propaganda Films. Among the directors he worked with were David Fincher and Wayne Isham. In the early 1980's he was a video cameraman, director and producer for Multivision, a video production company in Boston.
Roewe is a member of the Director’s Guild of America, the Producer’s Guild of America and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. He sits on the Board of Overseers for Boston University as well as the Board of Advisors to the School of Communication at Boston University.
Roewe holds a BS degree in Television from Boston University. He is also an accomplished musician.
