North Hollywood, CA, Jan. 26, 2009 - Jerry Petry has been re-elected to a second term as chairman of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Foundation Board of Directors, building on an agenda that has led to the recruitment of many top industry executives and growth in key programs.
Other officers elected to lead the Foundation are Michael Lombardo, president of HBO's programming group and West Coast operations, as vice chairman; Margaret Loesch, co-founder and CEO of The Hatchery, as treasurer; and former Foundation board officer Chuck Fries, CEO and executive producer of Chuck Fries Productions, as secretary.
Lombardo, who joined the Foundation's board of directors in 2008, has steered the group's development & industry relations working group and took an active interest in last year's student intern program. Loesch is a longtime board member whose past service includes co-chairing the Foundation's education committee; Fries has also been active on the board, steering its governance/finance working group and serving as treasurer.
"I'm honored to have been re-elected and proud to be serving along side a core of influential industry executives, all of whom have chosen to dedicate their valuable time and efforts to the Foundation," says Petry, executive vice president, NBC Universal Television. "We enjoy tremendous support from the Foundation staff in accomplishing the many positive goals of the Foundation."
"We're very pleased to have the Foundation remain in Jerry's capable hands for the next two years, while welcoming this talented group of new officers," Shaffner says. "Jerry has played a vital role in the growth of some of the Foundation's most prominent endeavors, including the College Television Awards, the Fred Rogers Scholarship and internship program, while attracting many of the industry's best and brightest to the board."
Taking the reins of the Television Academy Foundation in 2007, Petry established hands-on working groups to address pertinent industry topics, including development, industry relations, education, finance and governance.
He has also strongly supported the Foundation's strategic plans to enhance the Foundation's broad slate of initiatives, working closely with the staff on the digitization of the Foundation's Archive of American Television, a new Kid Vid program serving high school students, town hall meetings, the Celebrity Golf Classic and the Studio One Archive of American Television Presents series.
During a 33-year career at NBC, Petry has held a number of prominent positions. Since April 2006, he has served as executive vice president, administration, NBC Universal Television, West Coast.
Upon joining NBC in 1976, Petry worked in a variety of finance and business affairs posts for 12 years at the network and KNBC Los Angeles. Moving into a senior role at NBC Productions in 1988, Petry played an instrumental role in the extraordinary growth of the in-house production unit and, four years later, was named senior vice president, finance and business operations, for NBC West Coast. There, he managed all financial, production, business operations and strategic planning functions.
In 1997, Petry was elevated to executive vice president of NBC Enterprises, where he developed the company's television distribution business and created groups responsible for strategic marketing, as well as exploitation of NBC-owned content in home video, merchandising, licensing, music and publishing.
When NBC acquired Vivendi Universal Entertainment in 2004, Petry led a due diligence team and integration of the television business for the newly formed NBC Universal. Subsequently, he was named executive vice president, business operations and sales strategy, for NBC Universal Television Distribution.
